Bhadravati - a convenient stop after a long day of riding
On the road between Bhadravati and Hampi, another random tea stop that turned out to be a multiple hour eat and talk fest
Typical road scene in central Karnataka. Where is all the traffic?
The small town of Hampi is
backpackers paradise, in fact it is honoured with the title to be
number one attraction in India in my current Lonely Planet
Hampi is a small
settlement but is surrounded by a large area of boulders. And within
these boulders there are lots and lots of ancient ruins. Temples,
houses, palaces. And also lots and lots of tourists.
I was fortunate enough to
arrive in Hampi during their annual festival. It made it somehow
difficult to find accommodation but provided lots of extra
entertainment such as light shows and live music.
The famous boulderscape of Hampi
Some of the boulders feature important messages.
Elevated view of one of the larger temple complexes in Hampi
The town of Badami is famous for it's cave temples hewn into the sandstone cliffs.
The huge temple complex in the small town of Patanakal.
The small village of Ayole
is scattered around ancient temple ruins and at the foot of a fortified
hill, a great destination for explorers of ruins. All of it free of
charge and without a map or any signposting.
